DAT is actually great....but yet another format to own. In retrospect, if I was starting over, I'd try DAT. You're correct in that the machines are fairly new (compared to most R2R's), available at real world prices today (certainly not when they were first new) and the technology is sound enough. I certainly would give DAT no black marks whatsoever.
