Well I've used my S-VHS machines for recording audio. I knew of this years ago. But I don't consider it an audio format in the pure sense. The circuitry in most hifi vcrs are not audiophile by any means, even if it does still sound good. I would feel safer recording on reel to reel knowing full well the deck was made specifically for high end audio reproduction. Not to say I wouldn't lug out the S-VHS deck for recording onto, but I'd feel better recording on an audio specific device. But since cassettes could go away, I would not hesitate to use VHS HiFi again for good recordings. But I would suspect by then VHS tapes will be as scarse as cassettes.
