I just posted on PC asylum about looking for a plug-in (say for Winamp) to simulate tape hiss and perhaps drop-outs. I know that vinyl effects are available for DAW but not sure about Winamp. Searching today, I see there are tons of studio apps, including this pricey "all analog" tape simulator for several $K:I hope to find a winamp plug-in to do some damage. Writing one using the scripting langauge is within the realm of possibility but I'd rather squander my time on something else :)
Aw heck, looks like there is a lot of stuff after I googled "tape simulator."
BTW I sold my (broken) Nakamichi BX-100 for $0.01 (+ shipping) last year!
