I define it as making the source sound like I want it. Don't know about "but for recording and PB sound quality, the TCD 3014 is THE one compared to the Nak." as an absolute though. The Tandberg seems to have sweeter mids, the Nak better imaging, the Revox ahh, she just works and doesn't cause a fuss.
