Yes, Inmate51. I should have typed "tape guide", but had my mind on the pinch rollers. I've avoided using the TDK tape, and haven't had trouble.
I have the empty reels from the 456 tapes that I tossed, so I'll try transferring the TDK to one of them and se if the problem goes away.

I kinda like the TDK reels, with their "slot" on the hubs to use during threading.
