RE: Anyone interested in an Ampex 300 2 track used at Capital Records?

Thanks, Jack:

I'm afraid that the person who put up that machine for auction is slightly delusional. Even if it was in absolute mint condition, such a machine would never bring that sort of money in the current market.

As you saw in the images, there are knobs missing, some mismatched and of course, the original meters were removed and installed in a bridge like configuration up front and at the top. That is cool, but unoriginal.

Once upon a time, the Voice of America in Washington, DC had ROWS of decks like that (they might have been 351 series) for tape duplication purposes. I saw them myself, perhaps twenty of them in a row.

I even spotted such decks which showed up a Urban Ore in Berkeley, years ago for $100 in a roll around console.

I also sold my 351-2 in PERFECT condition with custom road cases to someone about eight years ago for $800.

There you go!
