Hello, All:
I want to put in a "plug" for an individual who is cutting an impressive pathway in making incredible location recordings these days.
The person I speak of is Andrew Levine, whose work I just recently "discovered". Andrew is based in Hamburg, and is almost unique in that he travels around cities on public transit or on a bicycle, apparently, toting his gear, which is lightweight and of course, portable. Here in the US, a lot of location recording enthusiasts these days utilize the Sound Devices 7-series of portable recorders. Andrew does something a bit different.
Not only is Andrew totally committed to recording in the digital domain, but he also uses a variety of interesting techniques. He favors using a laptop, but also loves the Metric Halo interfaces, which Andrew says, offer amazing sound quality and feature superb preamplifiers. And, they are totally PORTABLE!
By doing a preliminary search on the web, you will come upon some of his fascinating blogs but more importantly, samples of his work.
Please, do yourselves a favor and check out the many references (and lovely sonic samplings) out there by Andrew Levine, whose company is called BLUMLEIN RECORDS.
Here is one sonic sampling: http://www.trumix.com/podshows/3287094
And, please let me know what you think.
