I know that the prices are not cheap, but Soundsmith has corrected the Tandberg Pinchrollers, and you get a new better rubber material, plus a brand new bearing, in their new Tandberg Pinchrollers. There also is another source of New Pinch Rollers, the source is in Italy, he posts on Ebay, with many new Rollers, and Belt and Lamp Kits, his name is Bruno. I do know a number of members on this board that have bought from Italy the rollers and kits, and are extremely happy with them. His prices are lower than Soundsmith, but im not sure when Shipping is factored in.
But I can say that the Soundsmith Tandberg Roller, that are brand new, and not critical of cleaning materials used, they come with a warranty, and the Bearings are precise to the original Tandberg Specs. I have gotten them for my machines.
The only problem I see with Re-Surfacing the rubber rollers, is that any play in the bearings from years of use, would still be a factor with the new rubber on the roller. Any so called NOS Pinch Rollers are still suceptable to the 30 year or so aging process that happens between Rubber and the atmosphere. So, it may pay to go new, and have new rubber and bearing, or to send a NOS Roller, that has new bearings, to be re-surfaced. But rollers that have been used for years, will also have wear on the bearing hole, from all the use, that the machine has had for 30 years or so. I am happy with the New Tandberg Rollers from Soundsmith, pricey, but guaranteed, and not critical of cleaning solvents, its a new type of compound, better than the original rubber used years ago. Just an experienced FYI since I have the Tandberg rollers. Ray
When it comes to Open Reel Decks had em all...Akai, Teac, Revox, Sony, Hitachi, Tandberg..and the number one unit all around...Tandberg..for Open Reel. Nakamichi for Cassette. My Humble Honest Opinion.
