In the context of this discourse I think your points aren't very well chosen, mainly because you are describing the sale of valid collectibles and eBay is the natural place to sell/buy such stuff. Nothing wrong there. None of the commiserators in this thread will likely dispute that.re: free market. That's a broad topic and subject for another forum. Briefly I will say that history is full of examples of free-market economies gone wrong. Example 1), Great Depression. Too many stock investments were made using borrowed moneys. Stocks go down in a big way. Too many banks holding these loans fail all at once. Creates a cascade of other bank failures. Long period of recovery. Knee jerk reactions by new elected governments designed to never let this happen again result in new legislations and more complex bureaucracies designed to regulate too many facets of everyday life. It was the failure of a free market economy that brought on FDR's so-called "new deal".
Ebay might be seen as an outgrowth of a free market economy. Unrestrained trade. While we don't know for sure, it is probable that many transactions do not involve the collection of taxes. Depending on seller status and honesty. Q: When should an outside force step in to level the playing field? Answer; when it gets so bad that even a savvy, well informed buyer can't avoid getting hosed on a deal. My take: Ebay should police its own house to the point where there is no perceived need for any government to step in and police it for them. Sooner is better than later.
