Truth isn't hurting me here. But you might be reading into it what you want to see. Fine you can be sincere. I'm sincere. We're all sincere. But sorry, no group hugs. fwiw your points are not wrong. There is just more than one point of view.

Right you are. No, eBay can't be expected to police each and every sale. And of course, there is no way for anyone on the eBay staff to possess enough expertise to be able to correctly identify that all items are being correctly sold.

So what?

They can certainly do more than they have in the past about addressing complaints from buyers. Starting from there, the worst sellers could be weeded out.

I've seen evidence that there is some attention being paid by eBay mgmt in favor of the buyer.

Example 1) : A new rule. Sellers may not give a buyer negative feedback. This is in fact happening. At first sellers will have a problem with this because not all buyers are perfect citizens. However, in the long run, it is the seller who must establish the good will with his/her buyers, not the other way 'round. Just like in a brick & mortar store.

Example 2) : A seller offers a popular item up for auction. The seller lists that he has 8 such items. And I buy this item because it is what I've been looking for. True case. It was a wide angle lens for my camera. No need to get into the specifics, but I can. Anyway, I pay promptly and wait one week for delivery. About what would be expected. After one week, instead of my lens I get an email from the seller telling me to call him (long distance) because there is a problem. So I call. It turns out he doesn't actually have the item and is trying to get one. Then I say, "but your ad said that you had 8 of these, now you say you don't have any...". Anyway, I asked for my money back. Then immediately emailed eBay over this. Ebay's response was to require the seller to remove the ad and I did get my money back. So it wasn't a rip-off. And a flakey seller got his hands slapped.

Maybe there is some hope. But really, I think eBay can police its environment better simply by paying closer attention toward customer complaints. This is something that is realistic and should be expected. Otherwise, they've got what would equate to a rummage sale being held by pirates and thieves. And it's not quite that bad.

So my suggestion is this, rather than boycotting the place, just report every obvious case of fakery. Give them another chance to fix their avenue.

As to the guy with the TC160 and the laughable 'buy-it-now' price; well that one will take care of itself. Was I wrong to suggest that it should never have been allowed onto the eBay marketplace? My take is that if the place were running as it should, sellers would think twice before knowingly offering bad value to their customers.
