my guess is that he's more a clueless bastard than a con artist-maybe a little of both.;-) That unit would make a good door stop, but not a 'doorway' to vintage hi-fi.

As was said, hopefully these things sort themselves out. There's a Tandberg 3004 cassette deck on ebay right now with a starting price of $2,000. I say WTF??? definitely to that. Hasn't been serviced...wow what a 'deal'! The seller said he "...danced with his honey" while playing a cassette tape. Damn, that's a deal clincher all by itself I reckon.;-) One buyer wrote in that his price was crazy and why. The seller replied that "...his gut told him" it was the right price, although ..."he'd sleep on it". Have some fun looking at this one, I did.
