Hi Balaton,

Resolving power is a term used by audio enthusiasts in common with those involved in photography, or to put it another way, the definition of the term has a common understanding between the two fields. In hi-fi, it refers to the ability of the device to maintain signal purity and to present it without loss. In a Nakamichi Cassette Deck, the Philips OP 0435 op amps at the rec. head, two of them, are unusually effective as passive filters of odd-order (masking) distortion, an otherwise somewhat embedded evil of digital apparatus playback. These decks characteristically, therefore, sound extremely transparent, clean sounding and able to somehow tease apart the strands of music without accentuating any part of the frequency range or manipulating eq. Resolving power therefore would be synonymous with the presentation of good audio resolution, often the discovery to the listener of hitherto unheard elements of music otherwise familiar to them.

Cheers - Marc
