That's absolutely correct....you can buy a pre-recorded cassette tape at a thrift shop for 50 cents or less and you can walk into any Walgreens and buy Maxell II blank tape for a dollar or less.People like that view the world as a collaboration and consortium of naive suckers to pray upon. Even if you are lucky enough to get a Nak that you CAN access the belt (or an idler tire) with a reasonable amount of basic effort and cheap tools....the deck still needs a proper calibration and test of all functions by a real tech, preferably with Nak test gauges (which BTW are fetching some serious dollars these days!) I would venture to say that at least half the people that do the crap shoot thing on ebay and now have a working Nak, have only a 'partial' deck that is fully capable of MUCH better functioning & performance vis a vis at the hands of a real tech.
So...you either roll the dice and get 'lucky' or you get a deck that has been fully serviced and has the paper trail to go with it-bearing in mind that you're going to 'pay' for that and rightfully so. True that through your local craigslist, you can actually see the deck and put it through some basic functions....but that still won't stop many sellers from lying or fudging on the deck's history facts. Few people take responsibility for much these days and that includes honesty in all things.
