I had erroneously forgotten to point out that the cd on its own merit is indeed excellent sounding. It is only **BY COMPARISON** to the tape that I make those comments above. There are certainly no issues with a plastic sounding violin or a clanky piano! It's just that compared to the tape, the cd version errors in those DIRECTIONS mentioned above. Hopefully, that is obvious but I do want to make note of it as a follow up in case somebody here was only interested in picking up the cd version!! By all means go for it, you won't be disappointed and even if you are Joseph offers a money back guarantee!

Simply put: It's one of those things that had you not heard the open reel release you would be none the wiser as to what you were "missing out on" with the cd sonically.

Obviously, no surprises here either in my findings that the tape release is "better". The tape has much greater dynamic range and bandwidth as always over Redbook cd. I only make the comparison for fun as I usually do when I have releases on multiple formats. It's more or less done to be sure that the format hierarchy (according to my beliefs) has remained in-tact!

Regards,
Joel
