Wow, thanks for hitting me over the head with a ton of bricks. That's a GREAT idea, didn't even think of it. I'm sure the old tapes were recorded at 3 3/4 ips just based on the fact that the one on the 5" reel is 3 3/4 ips compatible ONLY, but who knows. I wouldn't want to sacrifice the quality of the deck just to play back the old tapes (though it is at least 10% of the reason I'm looking at R2R now).

So now I have TWO missions:

Finding somebody to get the old tapes to cd and also finding a new R2R deck!!
