I think that you can refine your search and improve the machine that you'll get in the end by sending those tapes you have to a transfer service and having them put on CD's for you. You're gonna have a heck of a time finding a deck that will do everything you "might need" to hear those tapes "and" get a good deck for the Tape Project tapes. I think if you only have 4 tapes of unknown speed and format, it couldn't cost too much to have them transfered. Also, if there's problems with the sound or the tape itself, they can restore it enough to get one good pass and you'll have a nice memory that you can email to the rest of your family.
