The Otari won't play anything but 7.5 and 15 ips. It's a pro-sumer machine. I'd suggest picking up a used Uher 4200 or 4400. Nice German engineering! The 4400 will play both 1/2 track as well as 1/4 track stereo and these Uhers play all speeds from 1 7/8 to 7.5 ips. The 4200 is 1/2 track stereo. The Uher 4200 only takes 5" reels however. It's a machine that was designed for radio station reporting and news gathering. There is also a Uher 4000 that is a mono machine that is 1/2 track mono and can play both sides of the tapes. The later model 4000IC is just a later model employing integrated circuits. The 4200 and 4400 are discreet transistor. Be careful that the batteries have not been stored in it and have leaked!!!. GREAT machines! Good luck! Ray
