The point is attaining a high-performance version of the stock Digital Antidote. The stock unit does not exactly use premium parts, and the DIY version, taken directly from the patent, is a lot more resolute and transparent by comparison. The link is appreciated, but not relevant to what the device addresses. In fact, the Digital Antidote does worsen phase performance, but with the right DAC, the elimination of "time smear" (from the ringing) more than makes up for that. (With experimenting with digital filters, and using both symmetrical and asymmetrical FIR coefficient sets, I've come to the conclusion that perfect average phase response from a symmetrical FIR function is somewhat overrated in regard to impact on overall performance.) Also note that some people, including Tony Taddeo himself, has confused "time smear" from brickwall filters with "phase response." As long as the FIR function itself is symmetrical, average (but not instantaneous) phase response will be exemplary within the DAC's passband. Regardless of how much the FIR otherwise smears the impulse response.
