I've been recounting the evils of brick wall filtering just above 20khz since virtually the beginning of the digital age. Middle ear nonlinearities cause audible difference products when presented with complex information including that above 20khz. As a matter of fact, an 18th Century musician noted this difference tone effect with (non ultrasonic) violin music, and thus 'Tartini Tones' were named after him.
