Help! Amplifier Maintenance

So I have a stereo amp that I have been trying to use to power a couple of bookshelf speakers. Everything works great, except the volume knob is acting really finicky. Most of the time, audio only comes out of one channel. Only when you fiddle with the volume knob (tap, twist, blow on, etc) does the sound come out of both channels.

I'm and getting really annoyed with this and was just wondering how I can fix it. I have no worries about opening it up and can solder stuff well, I just don't know what is causing the problem...
