Not a clue- that's sort of an odd one. Tube amps sometimes "motorboat" which can sound something like that, but I've never heard an opamp circuit do it. Are you sure it didn't do it before the mods? Five times a second is almost a buzz. Maybe something in the digital conversion? Do you have a scope?
