I simply soak the top of the pot first, allowing capillary action to draw in the LPS. Usually about 5 minutes will allow enough to penetrate. It won't penetrate evenly, so moving the knob back and forth will clean and distribute the oil. Again if you turn the preamp over, you can often see the solder pins. where there is a gap allowing the lubricant to enter. If soldered fairly flush to the PCB, then simply flood the area between the pot and the board, and allow it to sit for a while. You may need a couple of applications. You can actually 'feel' the difference when turning the knob. Once lubricated, the knob will be smoother in action and will not have the 'gritty' feel.

Good Luck,

Stu
