The term "Stopper diode" eludes me, by description this sounds like a circuit I first found in an Ampeg B-15, the circuit was essentialy was 3, 1N4007 diodes in serries (3KV piv), cathode to the CT, anode to end taps.It's purpose was to clamp reverse EMF in the event the secondary became unloaded, the diodes were far less painful to R&R than OPT, Leo Fender used a 1/4" normalised to ground, shorting the OPT secondary.
Really don"t see what it has to do with a bi-polar Power IC application but it"s interesting reading, learned alot from you all, thanx!
