blinking HDCD light on Star Wars gold cd-r copy

A very strange thing happened when I burned the latest Star Wars CD onto a MAM-A gold Cd-R.
At the very end of each & every cut, the HDCD light on my Rotel CD-971 player goes on, then off, then on again, and finally off at the very beginning of the next cut. I am at a loss to explain this--the original CD is NOT HDCD encoded.
Explanations, anyone?
