Not exactly. As Ted mentioned, the Threads view allows you to see the Topics sorted by the last newest responses. It also flags unred posts with a red arrow. It's the most effective for quickly catching up.
The alternate eThreads view is more like Head Fi and other vBulletin like forums. However, the dump of the threads is still inherently reverse threaded. It's possible, rather easy, to dump the posts with a pure date sort, but people don't quote posts all the time and it can be very confusing. The primary difference is the answers to the question are at the top and the conversations about that answer are grouped together, It seems to me that makes catching up faster as you see the new posts first rather than having to scroll down to the bottom.
