The main server is old and overloaded. Once we get it moved to the new one, things should improve. Right now, it's constantly running at 70-80% CPU and a few hundred users. Last week, it peaked at 1,142 users. It's simply a load problem right now, I hope. The new server is 3X faster with 3X more memory.
