Constant prompts for user name

This may be the anomoly o' the day, but every action I take on any forum prompts me to choose one of two user names- "barmy b" and "Bambi" to be entered into the "post a message" box. So, just reading a post and clicking back to the main page prompts this then again for the next post, and so on. Blocking and removing cookies on the broswer (Netscape 7.2) and th e"eat me" feature do not have a effect.
I tried deleting the "barmy b" account, but it apparently did not take and though I am still prompted to choose this user name, now I can't seem to login for another try at deleting the account.
Sorry to bother you with this as I've fussed with un-registration before, but this constant prompt is making the whole site unusable.
How can I clean out ALL the old moniker and registration items?
