I don't quite understand how this can be a "scam". If you hold the item until the check is cashed and cleared, and you are not sending the buyer back any money, I don't see the problem. I never, never ship anything until I have actual cash in hand. Even with Paypal, I never ship until I have removed the money from my Paypal account and have it in my hand.
