blakey,

Out of perhaps 200 Ebay and three Audiogon purchases, I've had only two problems: one of a pair of NOS Amperex Bugle Boy 12AX7s was broken and five years later, a used power conditioner had a scratch on the case on the front top. With the tube, the seller sent me another identical 12AX7 without charge, and with the conditioner, the owner refunded the entire $24 shipping- completely satisfactory results in these cases. I made a claim for the tube through USPS and when I received the cheque (these were only $30 tubes then), I mentioned my intention to send it to the seller, but he told me to keep it, so I actually got a NOS Amperex 12AX7 free of charge!

Your situation: As the seller had a fit of psychosis when confronted by the reality of the photos, and devised an outlandish excuse, it sounds as though he intends to worm out of any responsibility by any means at his disposal. What was the feedback for this seller like?

Was the package insured? The package though might have been insured by the shipper, but knowing the typical "claims adjuster" I imagine that they will take one look at the packing and walk away also- not their fault. When I made the claim for the tube, I had to bring the packing- and finding it substantial

Given the seller's seeming untrustworthiness, if you decide to ask for a refund, you might consider some device to make sure that simultaneously you are assured to receive the refund. -Perhaps C.O.D. would accomplish that.

Are the heatsink fins castings or more or less sheet metal? Perhaps the maker can supply replacements or the originals can be straightened and painted . It seems as though a pushed in foot if not too serious might be set back with minimal visibility. Who knows, if stuck with them, you might with a little body and fender work and very little cost, put the amplifiers back to an acceptable cosmetic condition.

There is the convenient "Upload Image" button below- can you post pictures of the packing and/or damage?

Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck with that one and let us know what happens.

Cheers,

Bambi B
