My admittedly incomplete understanding is that manufacturers who participate in this "showcase" have some say in having ads pulled that are in violation of their dealer policy --which for many manufacturers, states that their products cannot be sold via the internet under false representations or through the use of pseudonyms and aliases. I do not know the AudioGon policy itself, only what I have heard said about it.
It is also my understanding that AudioGon dictates that if you represent commercial interests (you are a dealer/distributor) that you represent that in your ad and pay the normal commercial rate, whatever that is.
I do know that some few dealers use sites like AudioGon as an easy way to liquidate excess inventory surreptitiously or to make a quick buck, and that such ads are generally stricken when discovered. I'm sure there are other legitimate reasons that some ads are stricken, but haven't studied their policy.
It would surprise me that a manufacturer, showcase or not, can have ads pulled just on a whim or with a wink and a nod as you surmise. This would certainly not be in the best interests of the people that run the AudioGon site. JMHO.
