Obviously, that is exactly what it is! Extra Loss in the dumb resistor.
The voltage drop (and power wasted) on the series 5K resistor isn't always going the same as the 5K transformer though. It could be more than half or less than half of the Vsource depending on whatever actual AC impedance of the transformer is.
Pretty useless way to make an amplifier FR curve goes crazy which would otherwise can be very good looking.
