Perhaps you might find this link interesting, particularly the idea that the output tube is only a small part of determining the quality of the amplifier's sound. It also points out that there are many relatively unknown and inexpensive tubes that you could consider.
Another factor you might want to consider if you build the amp yourself is what voltage you feel comfortable working with. The 6E5P / 6C33C combo will get you your 10 watts at lower voltages but with high current and a lot of heat. Each solution brings its own special problems.
