A while back he answered a query I had about the Parafeed cap in my Doc B/John Tucker Simple 45 and suggested swapping the 10uF for 2.5 to 5. I went with 4.7 because it was the smallest value Obbligato Oil that would still juuust peek out of the top plate.I thought there was an increase in texture of the bass as well as better detail up high. THat was a few months ago.
Since I recently completed a new pre-amp, I went back to the 45 after listening for a month or so solely to it with my KT-88 mono blocks. I knew the character of the pre-amp (JEL 76/6SN7 Line Stage) pretty well by this time and was ready to take the 4.7uF for a ride. This is a different amp. As good as it's been as my main amp since 2003, Now it's up there with the best I've heard.
It may be awhile before I go back to the muscle amps, as good as they are. Thanks, Paul!
