I have a dual mono SET integrated amp in the Line Magnetic 219IA.
This integrated has preamp in so it can be used a dual monoblock power amp.
The tubes are
2 X 12AX7 preamp stage
2 X 310A (dual driver stage)
2 X 300B (dual driver stage)
2 X 845 (output)
Someone mentioned that if you add a preamp to this the audio signal still passes through the 12AX7 preamp stage making the tubes placed here still important. I would have thought that the added preamp would bypass this stage sonically.
I tried out three preamps at the same volume and all three made rather significant changes to the sound without a hint of noise so I assumed it just side-stepped the integrated amp's preamp stage.
If someone can explain what happens when the preamp is connected and the switch is flipped that would be great
Thanks.
