The 845 tube seems to me, a non-DIY person, to be awfully demanding and the less expensive ones I have heard in SET don't sound much different than pentode-based PP amplifiers (or worse), even when wired as triodes. A lot of people want power + SET to go with their existing speakers. Why not focus on more sensitive and/or generally more tube-friendly speakers and go to a lower-power DHT?
But i do agree with the OPT comment about the importance of their quality. That's a constant.
