Rule of thumb for thermistors ??

Hello,

Starting my first amp build, and I have a lot to absorb and learn during the process.... I am interested in incorporating a soft(ish) start using a thermistor. I've gone to a couple of the thermistor folks sites, and read some posts here. I now have a general grasp of what they do, but the selection criteria seems somewhat cryptic.

The transformer calls for a 5 amp fuse, which is about what I come up with when I calculate the output current using delivered watts into 8 ohms (not sure if that calculation is relevant). When I look at digikey for 6 amp thermistors (thought it would be useful to uprate it a bit from 5 amp), the other main selection criteria seems to be cold resistance. I gather that it is to reduce inrush current, but I have no idea how to figure what resistance value is appropriate to my application...

Looking to gather up the parts for my project, and this one has me a bit stumped.

Thanks -- Roger
