My monoblocks have 2x6SN7's 2x5687 and 2x 300B's a side.Playing around with the 6SN7's I'm finding my RCA's have the best 3 dimensional image but are a bit shy on top and bottom but are superb in the lower mids. The Ken Rads I have are really punchy and have great dynamic range as well as gobs of bass and a nice top extension but not that amazing 3D effect that the RCA's are able to pull off.
So just to see I tried one RCA and one Ken Rad in each (single) amp side by side, and it sounds stunningly good.I had two evenings in a row extended listening sessions and I really have never heard anything quite this good before, it seems I have the best of both tubes really shining through.
I get the feeling that this should be a faux pas, but I'm very happy with it, anyone care to chip in?
