Vinnie, yes, I've now compared them, though with the 2A3 at an elevated heater of about 3.5v. I'd say the 300b is darker and not as transparent in the highs. I was comparing them yesterday using a variety of music ranging from Allison Kraus to Pines of Rome. I do feel the 300b has a bit more grunt in the low end (even though Pd on both tubes was running about the same). Overall, if you have the speaks for it, I'd use the 2A3. In my "accidental" set up, I am planning now to lower the heater to about 3v and just run the 2A3-40 tube. I don't think I'd try any other 2A3 in these conditions, just to be clear. And, FYI, my speakers are similar to Wayne's tremendous 4pi speakers. JBL 2226 on bottom, B&C 250 on top. About 96 to 97db efficent.
