Another thought. I recently completed a 6CB5 SE amp similar to the design that Thomas Mayer published on vinyl savor. The amp has great bass but sounds bass heavy (which other builders have commented along the same lines). I have not gotten around to tweaking it yet to balance the sound, but you are only interested in bass anyway. The tubes can be had for $10ea. Expect ~ 7w per tube SE.
