Sebrofs suggestion is a good one.
If you want a ballpark number, look at the fuse amperage of the amplifier in question. Multiply that times the line voltage and you get the wattage drawn before the fuse would blow.
Look at the amplifier as a whole circuit, as one 10watt amplifier may have more or less tubes (Heaters) being used then another.
Example:120V line x 1.5 amp fuse would be 180 watts.
Normally your amplifier does not draw this near this much,(Except maybe on start up), on the other hand you may want to have that little bit of headroom, so the device runs cooler etc.
If your specifics are unknown, some googling of similar topologies (fuse X line voltage) should give you a idea of what you need.
