I have a pair of EML 300Bs that I rotate in and out of a homebrew amp along with WEs with 1964 date codes, and JJs. The EMLs sound is solid in the lower regions and quite inspirational with rock and roll. The highs are clean and extended. The midrange is detailed and clean. The overall sound I enjoy with rock-n-roll but not with jazz or classical or vocals. The reason being is a distinct hardness to the sound. It is lessened with rectifier changes but never gone. The westerns, by comparison, are luscious in the mids and soft in the bass and highs. The JJs are between the 2 but somewhat hashey sounding.
I usually have them in place for a month or so before I get fatigued and change them out. They are very good tubes but I am considering selling them in favor of meshies.
