All of that sounds like a great way to take a ~$10000 set of amp and make them $5000.
When you stuff an amp full of large/heavy film caps, the amp won't ship well. You also have the opportunity to tear out solder eyelets on the PC board with your heavy caps, or you have to mount them to the chassis and wire up wire leads.
My big complaint about Wavacs is that you can't balance the hum pot without taking the damn cover off. I've seen much, much poorer parts in amplifiers costing over $50,000. For some reason, there is this odd expectation that a super high dollar amp will be stuffed with high quality film caps. Rarely is this the case.
I'm repairing my second Wavac in a month tomorrow.
