While I can't speak to the sound quality of the Mac amp, I can tell you the NAF 845SE Special Edition is something quite remarkable. I have had mine for about a year and continue to be endlessly impressed with it. I rolled the tubes (1948 RCA 12AX7, Matched JAN 5687 and Shuguang 845B output tubes) and the sound just keeps getting better and better. My speakers (Musical Affairs Grand Crescendo SAG with the PHY-HP coaxial driver) are quite efficient at 97dB and the amp just sings with them.

There is no substitute for a relatively high powered DHT SET amp. It just sounds like music!
