Michael,In an ideally constructed SE amplifier, I find that TV Damper Diodes are not a panacea. The TV Damper Diode's cathode, which gives such a nice long, slow gentle start up, has a downside. In a well executed amp, the NON cathode rectifier ( directly heated rectifiers, or DHRs) will inherently have better nuancing and layering of the music, even though the TV diodes have lower DCR.
To effectively obtain lower DCR in DHRs, without the subtle loss of nuance information inherent with cathode rectifiers, we parallel the plates on the DHRs and use two dual diode tubes.
YMMV, this is just what I have found, and others, in listening tests.
