georgemg, hi. While overseas try to audition the J C Verdier 845 Luxe or for that matter any Verdier amp. These are not well known in the States. The philosphy of the company is excellent as are their products. I am familier with WAVAC and like their amps though all use the Shishido Inverted Interstage transformer topology which allows the use of high mu transmitting tubes ( 805 833 etc ). The Shishido technique allows positive grid current to flow. In a Class A design using audio triodes ( 45 2A3 50 300B 845 ) one does not need to do this. Also - the implementation of the Shishido circuit uses Beam Power Tubes ( 6L6 6550 6V6 etc ) as drivers. This will give the amp a Beam Power flavor no matter what. Something to think about.
