"to say that no one has been able to build anything of this quality, or better, since?"

Well, (obviously) I have not heard everything that's out there. However, of the speakers and drivers I have heard, I wouldn't trade my 756Bs for any of them. Western Electric had the resources, engineers, etc. to make the best PM cone speakers they possibly could.

They used a proprietary pulp paper cone material, huge ALNICO magnets, precision voice coil/gap alignment and fanatical quality control. What a shame that the 1949 US Government Antritrust Suit forced WE to split off their manufacturing (it became ALTEC) from AT&T. This was just two years after they released their cone driver series (728, 754, 755 and 756).

FWIW, there's a guy Frank in NJ (an asylum member) who owns a rare pair of WE 753 speakers (PM woofer and 713 compression driver w/horn). After hearing my 756Bs, he has tried hard to find a pair.
