Hi Ian,

I have a shorted turns tester I picked up from a radio ham. I am in Adelaide so could arrange to drop around so you can test the transformer

I tested it tonight and it appears to work OK, allows current through winding when there are no shorted turns. As soon as I put a shorted turn on the toroid no current was passed through the winding. Not sure how it works, perhaps it generates an ac signal which is largely dissipated in the shorted turn
