I also have a hard time listening to full range speakers, due to the relatively high distortion at high frequency. Coax are much better, but the modern ~90dB MTM is probably my favorite type of speaker. My current speakers (I'm not a SET guy) are ~91dB/4ohm GR Research Diluceos, with Eton midwoofers and a G2 ribbon tweeter. I really don't know what they "sound" like. They clearly reveal every flavor contributed by the rest of the system, dirt and all. They sounded absolutely terrible when I was still using a solid state amp, absolutely terrible with my old Chinese tube amp, and astoundingly terrible with a tripath amp. With Craftsmen 500as, a Citation II, or a good pentode amp, I am consistently impressed with what I hear (and what I don't hear). Images behind my head, right in front of my nose, etc.

In general, I would prefer an 8 ohm (2 x 16 ohm) MTM design of slightly higher (~93dB) efficiency. Some day I may try to find that, but the Diluceos are more than sufficient for use with my usual ~15W push-pull tube amplifiers.
