Michael,If you read the entire Paoli 60M patient on line, (URL below) you will see that they were designed and compensated with complex speaker loads in mind, and they are fine with electrostats, at least in the high frequencies.
At the time, Gene Coggins, owner of Paoli Hi Fi Consultants, was "in" on Bob's development of early Fulton J Modular speakers, (which has a modified RTR-ESL6 in the top end).
By the way, Mr. Fulton added a circuit in them to get the ESL-6's diaphragms moving ALL the time, (sorta like tapping the GONG before you strike it at the correct moment in the score.) The Paoli 60Ms of that period were made to do fine on RTR-ESL6s.
My use of full range electrostats however, dates back to pre-1978, when I first met Bob Fulton. Pre 1978 I used single and double pairs of KLH 9s, Infinity ServoStats, the 1s and 1As, and Quad ESL 57s. I never ran full range electrostats after 1979, and the Paoli 60Ms came into my hands at a much later time.
So Mikey, I am not sure how my latest (currently building them) Paoli 60Ms will do on full range electrostats. My Paoli implementation will be only a 40-50 watt amp, and lack the instantaneous peak current capability of P-P-P or solid state amplifiers. But as we know, static specs don't always correlate to sound when playing a load!!
My latest build idea Mike is to redo the Paoli with multiple Fraker L-S.E.S. Three separate L-S.E.S. supplies for each monoblock are involved - the B+, the G2 supply....and the bias supply.
I will get rid of the Dyna's P.C. boards and do point to point with decent grounding, and use 12 AWG multi stranded (vintage Anaconda) wire for all the B+ and ground distribution runs.
G2 supply power transformer will be 8 ohms DCR, pretty low, and B+ power transformer's DCR will be a cruncher....only 0.92 ohms DCR !!
I just "MUST" hear this, hence, my (third) go-round in seven years with the basic circuit.
I'll report up here, on how it does, once its finished and sorted out. I have high end audio dealers in Kansas City, where I can A-B the amp on a variety of speakers against the best they sell.
You making it to VSAC '08 kiddo ? I will be at a West Point graduation, so its Denver RMAF 2008 for me only this year, if we don't get nuked between now and then.
