I might ask what you replaced the Cy amp with but it seems to me the ? is rather obvious. I wish I had a chance to hear a Hogan amp. Seems to be many happy users out there with them. I hope more fellows like John surface to make products for the nitch of us out there that like home made goodness (along with bang for the buck). Ive found Don Allen for the like along with Cy.
What mods did Cy do to the Cavalier? I initially bought one but sold it before I could get it home to another fellow Edgar horn fan who liked what he heard.
Cy built these newer Cavalier Plus amps with a power transformer that has 2 different voltage taps so the amp can be wired for KT100 or the lesser voltage garden variety of KT / EL family outputs. Im sure this amp can show the differences. Like I said in my original posting, it certainly showed if a tube was broken in or not. Again, Ive never seen it so pronounced before either. For now Im getting to know the KT100 sound. Yeah it doesnt have that 300B / DHT lush rich sound. And yeah Id be lying if I said I didnt miss it to some extent. However it really unveils allot of inner detail and separation that I didnt get before as a trade off. I might have to try your Mullard EL34 as a test to see if I can get the best of both worlds.
You ever miss your Cavalier....dumb ? I know :-)
